Last night was Loy Krathong, one of the most popular festivals in Thailand. According to Wikipedia: "Loy Krathong is held on the full moon of the 12th month in the traditional Thai lunar calendar. In the western calendar this usually falls in November. 'Loi' means 'to float'. 'Krathong' is a raft about a handspan in diameter traditionally made from a section of banana tree trunk (although modern-day versions use specially made bread 'flowers' and may use styrofoam), decorated with elaborately-folded banana leaves, flowers, candles, incense sticks etc. During the night of the full moon, many people will release a small raft like this on a river."Us girls went to Lumphini park to release floats. Well, not really. I did not have a krathong for my self coz I don't believe in those ceremonies/rituals. Still, it was fun to jostle with kids and families in the park's lakes.
Apres Lumphini, Bubbles and I took the BTS to Saphan Thaksin and crossed the river towards the house of E, who set up a party for the festival. The view from her house is of course splendid... we mainly watched those gaudy river boats float by and later in the evening we watched the fireworks.

I remember a Loy Krathong a couple years back, sitting in Tawan Bar, watching the largely built go-go guys symbolicly launch their floats wearing nothing more than a smile...ah, tradition.
last year, i was in chiang mai during loy krathong... had a great time kahit i was there for work most of the week...
